Is This Something Normal to Expect From a Gun Manufacturer?

I have had my FN FiveSeveN pistol about 18 months. It spent most of this winter at -35F to -50F in my truck - and frequently was fired when very, very cold. 2500+ round though it, best I can figure, from all the empty little blue boxes. This is the gun I haul with me on my snowmachine, ATV - and especially gold panning all over Alaska. It has seen some serious use - but - I did try to keep it clean. It's got no shortage of weekends it has been rode hard and put up wet.
It developed an issue with the slide - some extra resistance - hard to pull back. No shock - the way I use it so much. I dropped it into a hospital bag with a fired round and box top of the ammo used in it last - and sent it back to the FN HomeWorld. 1911's I can deal with - plastic fantastics I have no experience with. I've been waiting for some FN gunsmith to call me and cuss me out - and then tell me how much it will cost to repair. (Dan Wesson did that to me back in 81' when I sent one of theirs back) Instead - UPS shows up on my door step with a new pistol kit - new gun, new serial number - 3 new mags - manual, docs, the works - a totally new gun kit. Free.
I am still pinching myself. A complete new pistol kit. Latest model. Full of new mags.
I this something you have had a gun manufacture do for you? I am thinking about all the guns I have fixed myself in the past - and to think I could have just sent 'em back and gotten a new one in a few weeks.

Never had a repair issue to deal with (yet!) We did send in my dad's (now my) Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag to have the free transfer bar safety upgrade installed. The service was fast, all the original parts came back with the gun, and we got a nice, new Ruger box to boot. Good service can still be found, occasionally.
