Question by Philip: What physical property and what technique make this separation possible?
Gold can be seperated from sand by panning or by a sluice-box. In panning, water is mixed with the sand and the resulting slurry is swirled in a shallow, saucer-shaped metal pan. In the sluice-box technique, running water is passed over an agitated sand-gold mixture.

This gold separation in panning for gold is based on golds high density (ie. heavy weight). Gold is heavier than whatever else you're gonna find in the grave. After some water is added to help reduce friction and separate everything apart, the gold settles to the bottom and is the last thing left in the pan after everything else is removed.

Question by Justin: Is it possible to make a good movie without camera panning?
I hate panning in my films cause it goes by so fast and most inexpensive tripods suck at panning. Do you think a film would be horrible without panning scenes?
