Question by Linda T: Where is a good place to pan gold around Jamestown, Sonora, or Mariposa?
I posted this originally in the wrong place. I applogize. I am rather new to posting. I am hoping that someone might know of a good spot to pan a little gold, look for rocks, and take pictures in the Jamestown, Sonora, or Mariposa area.

Answer by SS<3 Gold was discovered in Coloma, and they have a lot of good places to pan for gold on the American river. If that is too far, just about any place on the American river is a good place. I live about 10 miles from the North Fork of it, and my sister found quite a bit of gold in flakes.

Question by Rocco: Where is the best place in the United States to pan for gold?
Like if I wanted to go camping for a week with my girlfriend. Must be able to drive a two-wheel drive car there, but walking in ten miiles or so is acceptable. I would use a USGS map.

Question by Jennifer D: Can I use a pie plate or something in place of a gold pan?
I am taking my kids out and panning for gold today, I can't find any gold pans in my area, can I use anything else? Any helpful tips would be great also.
Best answer:
Answer by smartsassysabrina You can use a deep pie pan with a low sloping side instead of a gold pan. Anything that gradually comes to the lips so you can control the water and dirt in the pan.
