that type of work is only suitable for a coloring of gold on medals , car ornaments etc. where it looks good, but if you want to do jewelery, watch straps etc, the thickness has to be guaranteed to a standard that it wont rub off in a week or so. so be very careful if you are looking into it

Question by Melissa: Scrap gold jewelry kits? What do you think?
Has anyone seen those commercials where people get money for their scrap/old gold jewelry? They advertise that you send in your old gold in a "kit" and they send you money for it? Anyone tried it, heard anything about it? It almost seems too far out there, or that they aren't going to give you much money for your gold and you can't get it back? any thoughts out there?

Best answer:

Answer by Samarama
I have never used them and never plan to. I think it is a sham and you will get screwed over. I think the best way to get rid of scrap gold is to go to a jeweler and get it appraised and then sell it accordingly. You could get some good deals on Ebay or at a pawn shop. Some jewelers even buy it from you. Don't use the "kit."

If you want more info about it, try the Better Business Bureau.

Question by YoMommaAteTheFly!!!: are gold panning and placer mining the same thing?
I'm doing a national history day assignment and I was doing research in wikipedia about gold panning and then wikipedia said about the history of placer mining. so is placer the same thing as gold panning? Thanks for reading!

Best answer:

Answer by nobody@9000ft
gold panning is a type of placer mining. It is old-school and small scale. Placer mining simply refers to deposits that are not lode deposits (lode deposits being contained within a host rock, like a vein). Placer deposits used to be veins that are weathered (the mountain with the vein in it is completely washed away over millions of years) and transported, and concentrated by water.

Question by rockhound: Where can I buy a gold panning kit in Dubai UAE?
I can really use something similar to a Garrett gold pan.

Best answer:

Answer by lostrockhead
Mail order, I would suggest, or just use a skillet. Try this link, and look for gold panning clubs in the US. They can tell you what to look for, and how to do it. I don't know if Dubai has gold in the creek sediments, but then again, Missouri in the US has gold from the Rocky mountains around 600 miles away. Look at geologic maps to indicate areas of interest.

Go to the mineralogy database and search for minerals by chemistry. There is a place on the bottom of the page where you can enter gold and new south wales. You will get a list of locations. All you then need to do is find one of them that is upstream from a location that you can pan.
