Question by Alicia: Chemistry question?!?
Gold can be seperated from sand by panning or by a sluice box. in panning, water is mixed with the sand and the resulting slurry is swirled in a shallow, saucer-shaped metal pan. In the sluice-box technique, running water is passes overf and agitates sand-gold mixture. What physical property and what technique makes this serperation possible?
thanks!

Hello
The higher density of the gold particles compared to sand and other unwanted material makes them sink down faster.
So they are found on the bottom of a pan or whatever is used, while the other material floats away.
