Question by Melissa: Scrap gold jewelry kits? What do you think?
Has anyone seen those commercials where people get money for their scrap/old gold jewelry? They advertise that you send in your old gold in a "kit" and they send you money for it? Anyone tried it, heard anything about it? It almost seems too far out there, or that they aren't going to give you much money for your gold and you can't get it back? any thoughts out there?

Best answer:

Answer by Samarama
I have never used them and never plan to. I think it is a sham and you will get screwed over. I think the best way to get rid of scrap gold is to go to a jeweler and get it appraised and then sell it accordingly. You could get some good deals on Ebay or at a pawn shop. Some jewelers even buy it from you. Don't use the "kit."

If you want more info about it, try the Better Business Bureau.

Question by j: if you have a gold pan with mostly iron pirite and a little gold, how can you extract the gold?
i have been crushing some rock and panning it down, now im left with pirite and a few small amounts of gold. is there an easy way to get the gold ?

Best answer:

Answer by Mike
osmosis j/k

you can sift it or melt it. Each stone melts at different temperatures. they will seperate in the melting process just dont exceed the temp to the second melting point. once the pyrite has turned to ash you can pour it in a bath or filter it. Use your good judgement I don't know what you are working with.

Or pour acid on it the pyrite will disolve but the gold will not.

Question by ThePooh: What are the best sized tart pans, spring form pans and ramekins?
I need a few more kitchen gadgets and was planning to ask my husband for the following. Can someone suggest the most common and practical sizes for:

1. Tart pans for savory and fruit tarts - is 10 inch the most commonly used size?
2. Spring form pans - 8 inch or 9 inch? I think I use 9 inch more often but just checking.
3. ramekins - I have recipes for everything from 6 ounce to 12 ounce but the most common sizes in my recipes are 6 oz / 3/4 cup OR 8 oz / 1 cup. 3/4 cup shows up more often but should I go with the 1 cup for versatility?

Can anyone recommend a good ricer that is reasonably priced? Primarily to be used for mashed potatoes and maybe applesauce but I'm sure I'll find other uses.

Thanks!!
So you think my best all-purpose choices are a 10 inch tart pan, 9 inch springform and 1 cup ramekins?

Best answer:

Answer by Steve G
Looks like you answered your own Q, for the ricer you can pick one up a the Super Market with the cooking gadgets

Question by .??? ??íqí??? c??b?b?.: This paragraph best describes which branch of anthropology?
Harrappan artifacts that have been unearthed include jewelry, cloth, razors, pottery, mirrors, fishhooks, and even toys. These artifacts reveal that the Harappans were highly skilled people. They used copper and bronze to make tools, mirrors, pots, and pans. Bone, shell, and ivory were used to create ornaments, tools, game pieces, and inlays for furniture. They crafted silver and gold utensils and ornaments, as well as ornaments made of stoneware and earthenware.

cultural anthropology?
archaelogy?
social anthropology?
physical anthropology?

Best answer:

Answer by Athena
This reads more like an archaeological summary from excavations. However, this could also be a cultural/social anthropological explanation of the Harrappan...because this is just one paragraph, it could be either. We do not have the context of this paragraph within the whole text, if there is one. I would say it is more on the side of archaeology as a summary of findings and research of an excavation.

Question by vanskatr15: Is there gold in tennessee?
Hey i found some gold flakes in the creek by my house or what looks like gold. Is there gold in creeks and if so where do i need to look? I have lots of equipment i just bought and know how to use it i got a sluice box and a pan and a vacuum thing if there is gold in tennessee is there gold in middle tennessee and all creeks?

Best answer:

Answer by Tahoeguy
Sounds like you found pyrite or mica flakes. It could be gold, but gold usually settles into the bottom and in crevices and around or downstream of stumps, rocks, logs etc. Take your samples somewhere to get them tested. A simple acid test bottle should cost about .00, and you just clean the sample of dirt and place a drop on the test material. If it foams and turns green with bad vapor, its not gold. If nothing happens or it turns brownish slowly, its gold. Rinse under water throughly and keep it off your hands or they will turn yellow and the skin will peel eventually.

Yeah, there is gold there, but not much compared to other loactions.
